Second EMBO International Practical Workshop for Science Teachers, 24th to 25th May, 2003
Invitation to the press
Following in the footsteps of last year's very successful workshop for science teachers, the European Molecular Biology Organization will hold its second international teachers' workshop from 24th to 25th May, 2003 at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany.
This year's workshop has attracted more than 122 school teachers from 22 countries across Europe and beyond. The workshop comprises scientific lectures from leading researchers and practical experiments, in addition to an exhibition of teaching/learning resources and media aids - everything from practical kits to CD roms. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the international research environment of EMBL.
"We are overwhelmed by this year's response from teachers all over Europe," says Andrew Moore, workshop co-organizer and Programme Manager for Science & Society at EMBO. "Shortly after the first announcements early this year, the workshop was already booked out and we have a long waiting list." The good news, however, is that this event is the kick-off for a series of workshops all over Europe and in Israel: EMBO is planning eight further workshops in as many countries for 2003 and 2004. These workshops are financed by the European Commission as part of the initiative 'Continuing Education for European Biology Teachers (CeeBT)'.
Journalists are invited to attend the workshop and take part in an informal press meeting at 11 a.m. (local time) in the EMBO building (ground floor, library). Those journalists who would like to attend are kindly asked to register with their full address at: pr_embo@embo.org.

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) was established in 1964 by leading scientists in the field. The aim of the organization is to promote molecular biology studies in Europe. Subsidiary to that general aim are concepts such as the development of a strong trans-national approach to molecular biology, the identification of measures that can assist in the training of scientists in this area and the emphasis on scientific criteria for all of its activities.
