Passau services scholar receives prestigious Emerging Service Scholar Award
Professor Jan H. Schumann was presented with the AMA SERVSIG Emerging Service Scholar Award during the Frontiers in Service Conference 2019 in Singapore, making him the first academic from a German university to receive this coveted prize. SERVSIG is the American Marketing Association's special interest group for service research; its Emerging Service Scholar Award is given to researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the field of service research early on in their career.
Jan H. Schumann has held the Chair of Marketing and Innovation since December 2012. His research in the services field is focused on pricing, the impact of new technologies, challenges brought by new data-driven business models and customer integration in the development and delivery of services.
Schumann said: 'This award is well-respected in the international community of service researchers and receiving it is a great honour and a truly great success for me professionally and personally'.
The award, which is granted by the University of Porto, has been presented annually since 2015. The award selection process takes into account the current impact of candidates' work as well as its future potential to substantially advance service research.
By presenting him with this award, AMA SERVSIG honours Professor Schumann for his prolific and highly successful scientific output, which has resulted in more than two dozen papers published in international journals, including the renowned Journal of Marketing. It is also a recognition of Professor Schumann's commitment to the community of service scholars – as a member of the editorial review board of the Journal of Service Research and in other roles, as well as through his support for excellent young researchers – and his enduring efforts to build bridges between academia and businesses: in recent years, Jan H. Schumann has raised more than two million euros in external funds for knowledge transfer projects with business partners.
