World Energy Council: Rector re-elected to presidium and chair
Prof. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht was elected by the members of the World Energy Council at the online general meeting on October 7. The election marks the beginning of the Rector of TU Freiberg's third term of office as a member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee.
"I am delighted about the re-election and the opportunity to continue to bring the Freiberg expertise to this unique international network of competent partners. The energy turnaround is one of the greatest challenges of our time, which we can only solve together and internationally hand in hand. We in Freiberg have often proved that we can make an important contribution to this process. Since its foundation in 1765, the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg has accompanied the most diverse transformation processes in history, advancing future technologies to solve current environmental and climate issues and providing an upswing with new knowledge", explains Prof. Dr. Barbknecht.
Since 2015 the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg has been a member of the World Energy Council (WEC), whose focus is on sustainability and humanity as well as all energy sources. This makes the WEC the only global network of its kind that spans all energy sources. Founded in 1923 and based in London, the WEC today has over 100 national committees. They deal with global and long-term issues of the energy industry, energy policy and energy technology. The German member organization is the World Energy Council - Germany e. V. with headquarters in Berlin.
