Useful source: Handwerksroll data
The business statistics of the Chambers of Skilled Crafts hold a worthwhile data potential for start-up and SME research. In the policy brief "Unternehmertum im Fokus" (Entrepreneurship in focus), published by the Förderkreis Gründungs-Forschung e.V. and IfM Bonn, researchers from ifh Göttingen demonstrate this using three studies as examples.
What is the impact of the Corona pandemic on start-ups in the skilled craft sector? What consequences did the amendment of Handwerksordnung have on market entries and exits in the craft trades that are exempt from licensing? Which regions in Germany are particularly characterised by the craft branches?
On the basis of the Handwerksroll data, Dr. Jörg Thomä, Dr. Katarzyna Haverkamp, Dr. Till Proeger and Dr. Petrik Runst (all from the Institute of Economics for SMEs and Crafts at the University of Göttingen) have provided answers to these questions in the current policy brief "Entrepreneurship in Focus". According to this, the lower registration of new craft enterprises in 2020 is less due to the Corona pandemic than to the renewed amendment of the German Handwerksordnung.
