Partnership to strengthen the scientific artistic promotion in film
The Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) have agreed on February 14, 2022 on a cooperation in the field of scientific-artistic doctoral studies in film.
The Film University is the only German film school to have had university status since 2014 and the scientific-artistic doctoral right since 2016, in addition to the scientific doctoral right.
With ZHdK as one of the largest and most research-intensive art universities in Europe, the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF creates another interesting partnership, which opens important doors for the graduates of both universities towards an international academic career and provides valuable opportunities for exchange and networking. Doctoral students will be supervised in their qualification by an artistic and an academic professor, each of whom can come from both universities.
Since ZHdK does not yet have an independent doctoral programme, it will provide its participants with expert support in their application for a doctorate at the Film University through training courses and pre-PhD programmes.
Prof. Dr. Susanne Stürmer, president of the Film University: "The scientific-artistic doctoral programme of the Film University is one of the few within the German-speaking area and was positively evaluated in fall 2021. I am pleased that the close collaboration with ZHdK, which has already existed for years, will now be intensified through this cooperation."
Prof. Dr. Thomas D. Meier, president of ZHdK: "After successful negotiations around the cooperation agreement signed in February with Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF in the field of scientific-artistic doctoral studies, ZHdK doctoral students within the film programme can now also obtain the coveted title. We are very happy over this groundbreaking agreement."
The cooperation will also enable the doctoral students to receive financial support for their projects and take advantage of the currently established Graduate Academy of the Film University.
